Fire Safety Week: October 4th through October 10th
Keep a working smoke alarm in every bedroom.
Roughly 50% of all home fire deaths occur from fires reported between the hours of 11pm and 7am. These are the hours of sleep for most Americans. Smoke spreads fast and with a working smoke alarm you will have time to escape. A working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying by 50%.
The key message of this year’s Fire Prevention campaign is to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, on every level of the house (including the basement) and in places where a fire could start and go undetected.
Please change your Smoke Alarm batteries annually and check them every 6 months (when the time changes) or upgrade to the 10 year sealed battery (non-replacement) type smoke alarms.
